The Åbo Akademi University Foundation contributes financially to maintaining the

Åbo Akademi University and also supports and promotes other cultural activities in Swedish,

especially scientific research. In 2018 we donated 15 million euros as a centennial

gift to Åbo Akademi University. The funding is aimed solely at Centres of Excellence

and will be shared by prominent research groups during 2019-2028.

Our support for scientific research includes two independent institutes, The Donner Institute for Research in Religious and Cultural History and The Åbo Akademi University Foundation Research Institute.

Through the Research Institute, the Åbo Akademi University Foundation finances strategic research projects that have the potential to achieve success both nationally and internationally.

CULTURE-BEARING ACTIVITIES

We have an important role as a cultural promoter. We operate three museums and also own the building where Åbo Svenska Teater is operating free of charge.

CASA HAARTMAN

The artist’s home Casa Haartman is designed by the architect Erik Bryggman for the couple Axel and Hedvig Haartman.

SIBELIUS MUSEUM

The Sibelius Museum is Finland’s most versatile music museum.

ETT HEM

The museum Ett hem was awarded the Museum association of Southwest Finland award in 2017.

Directions by car: Turn into the park at the top of Kaskisbacken hill at Kaskisgatan 4 onto the Svartmunkegränd road, which leads through the park and up to the Observatory. There are parking spaces for a few cars by the Observatory.
