Research Funding
The Åbo Akademi University Foundation annually distributes 15-20 million euros to support science, research, and culture. A key objective of the foundation is to provide financial support to Åbo Akademi University, which is why the majority of research funding is directed to the university. The foundation and Åbo Akademi University maintain a continuous and long-term partnership to strengthen and advance shared initiatives focused on research, impact, and societal relevance. The foundation of the collaboration lies in the strategies of both organisations, guided by the core values of sustainability, transparency, quality, and societal impact. We engage in dialogue to identify, create, and support new opportunities for researchers and research groups at Åbo Akademi University, enabling them to excel, push the boundaries of research, and contribute to solving the major societal challenges of our time.
The research funding collaboration spans several key areas that bring together the foundation and Åbo Akademi. The most important are:
- Centres of Excellence in Research at Åbo Akademi University
- Grants for researchers and doctoral researchers, as well as doctoral positions
- Targeted initiatives, such as infrastructure, pioneering research ideas, and mobility
- The network Scholars at Risk.
