The Freja Prize
The Åbo Akademi University Foundation creates future by supporting scientific research, art, and culture. Freja is the goddess of fertility in Norse mythology but she also has the ability to see into the future. The Freja Prize, established in 2022, is the foundation’s cultural award. Culture, in this context, refers to art in a broad sense: visual arts, theatre, literature, architecture, and music.
The recipients of the Freja Prize have made significant contributions to their artistic fields in the Turku region and are also expected to have a promising future in the field. The Freja Prize is awarded every two years, either through a competition or as a recognition prize.
The winner or winners of the Freja Prize are selected by a prize jury composed of experts in the specific art form in focus. The prize sum of 15,000 euros can, at the jury’s discretion, be divided among multiple recipients.
