Sibeliusmuseum – A House Full of Music
The museum is in an iconic brutalist concrete building from the 1960s, designed by architect Woldemar Baeckman. Its architecture attracts both music and architecture enthusiasts from around the world.
In the Sibelius Hall, the museum hosts concert series such as Sibbe Live! and Fridays at Sibbe, offering live performances with surprising musical encounters across various genres.
The Sibelius Museum has one of the largest music archives in Finland, containing nearly 1,500 shelf metres of archival material, along with a collection of approximately 2,300 musical instruments. Much of the archive and instrument collection is deeply tied to Finnish musical heritage, musicians and instrument makers, and to Turku. Parts of the collections have been digitised and can be found in the national search service Finna.
Select items from the archive and instrument collection are on display in the museum. The theme of the temporary exhibitions vary, often focusing on Finnish music and culture. The life and works of Jean Sibelius hold a special in the museum.
Outside regular opening hours, the spaces in the museum can be rented for concerts, lectures, meetings, conferences, and private events.
