Casa Haartman’s Summer Season Begins with Children’s Museum Day on 8 June

Casa Haartman
The artist residence Casa Haartman begins the summer with a vibrant start on Sunday, 8 June, with Children’s Museum Day. Under this year’s theme, “Life in the Garden,” the whole family is invited to enjoy a day of crafts, painting, and creative activities in the inspiring garden. The event also marks the beginning of the summer season, which runs until 7 September. During the first week, the museum will offer extended opening hours.
Casa Haartman was home to Axel and Hedvig Haartman for forty years. The house offers a unique insight into the couple’s life and work. Axel and Hedvig considered their home to be one of Axel’s most beautiful creations and wished for it to be preserved for future generations. The house was donated to the Åbo Akademi University Foundation in 2017.
– It’s a pleasure to once again welcome visitors to the museum. The most attentive guests may notice the extensive conservation work that has taken place over the past few years. The museum displays over 150 works, the majority of which have been recently conserved,” says Maria Jansén, Museum Curator.
Axel Haartman (1877–1969) was a versatile cultural figure, known as a painter, art critic, art dealer, and Director of the Turku Art Museum. Casa Haartman was designed by Turku architect Erik Bryggman and has been preserved with its original interiors. The museum features work by artists such as Helene Schjerfbeck, Fanny Churberg, and Wäinö Aaltonen, alongside Axel Haartman’s own paintings and decorative art.
Art and Play for All Ages on Children’s Museum Day
Welcome to the artist home Casa Haartman and its beautiful garden, where families are invited to take part in this year’s art-themed event! Organised in collaboration with the Naantali Museum and the Naantali Music Festival, Children’s Museum Day takes place on Sunday, 8 June, from 10:00 to 14:00.
The Haartmans were passionate about their garden, which has inspired this year’s theme “Life in the Garden.” Visitors can create mobiles from natural materials found in the garden, craft frogs or butterflies, and take part in a painting workshop. Inside the museum, a fun and interactive museum game invites visitors to explore the interiors of Casa Haartman in a playful way.
Children’s Museum Day is free of charge. Entry to the museum is limited to a set number of visitors at a time, but there is plenty of space outdoors for crafts and painting. The event is recommended for children aged 6 to 12 years. Please note that some activities will take place outdoors and are weather-dependent.
Casa Haartman will be open to visitors from 9 June to 7 September. During the opening week, 9–15 June, the museum will have extended hours and be open daily from 12:00 to 18:00. For more information, please visit www.casahaartman.fi.
We warmly welcome you to Casa Haartman!
