The Ralf Törngren Prize
Ralf Törngren (1899–1961) acted as the CEO for the Åbo Akademi University Foundation from 1931 to 1948. He was a member of parliament for the Swedish People’s Party of Finland and held the positions of Minister of Social Affairs, Minister of Finance, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Prime Minister. Törngren was also active in local politics in Turku, and a teacher of economics and honorary doctorate at the School of Business and Economics at Åbo Akademi University.
The Foundation established the Ralf Törngren Prize in 2001 to honor Ralf Törngren’s contributions to the Åbo Akademi University Foundation and to Åbo Akademi University and its Student Union.
The prize is awarded to a student at Åbo Akademi University who, alongside successful studies, has significantly contributed to the development of either the university or the student union. The candidates for the prize are nominated by the Rector and the Deans of Åbo Akademi University as well as the Student Union of Åbo Akademi University.
The recipient of the prize is selected by the Foundation’s Board based on a recommendation made by an external prize committee. The prize sum is 7,000 euros.
