Grants

The main mission of the Åbo Akademi University Foundation is to support Åbo Akademi. In addition, the foundation promotes cultural work in Swedish in Finland, with a particular emphasis on scientific research. Grants and financial support are distributed exclusively from investment returns, not from the foundation’s capital.

The foundation primarily supports cultural work through its own cultural initiatives, including the Sibelius Museum, the museums Ett Hem, and Casa Haartman, as well as its various art and other collections. Funding is also provided for other cultural projects.

From 2022 onwards, funding for cultural projects is available through the Martha and Albin Löfgren Cultural Fund. Detailed information on application timelines and processes for grants from this fund can be found here. Starting from 2022, funds for cultural activities are granted from the Martha and Albin Löfgren Cultural Fund.

The names of all grant recipients are made public after a decision by the board or the CEO. These names are published on the foundation’s website and may also be featured in other communication channels, such as the annual report and social media.

In addition, grants may also be awarded, in exceptional cases, for other cultural projects in Swedish in Finland. Interested parties should submit a written inquiry, including a brief project description, timeline, and financial plan, to bidrag@stiftelsenabo.fi. If the project aligns with the type of activity that the foundation supports according to its mission, an electronic application form will be made available in the grant management system, Rimbert.

Grant recipients are expected to acknowledge the Åbo Akademi University Foundation in any articles, interviews, or statements related to the funded project. The foundation’s logo is encouraged to be used in digital and printed publications, as well as in advertisements.
