Donating
A Donation to the Åbo Akademi University Foundation Is an Investment in the Future
The Åbo Akademi University Foundation was founded in 1917 with a donation from 35 private individuals. Over a hundred years later, we own and manage more than 400 funds established through bequests or other donations.
Every year, we support Åbo Akademi with approximately 15 million euros, which primarily funds projects, operational activities, research initiatives, and scholarships.
We promote cultural work that benefits the Swedish-speaking community in Finland, including maintaining the Sibelius Museum, the museum Ett Hem in Turku, and Casa Haartman in Naantali. Thanks to donations, the Foundation for Åbo Akademi owns the spaces in Finland’s oldest theatre building where Åbo Svenska Teater operates. In addition, the foundation preserves several culturally significant properties and collections and manages the Donner Institute for Research into Religion and Culture.
All of this is made possible by the donations we have received over our century-long history.
Help Create the Future!
We gratefully accept donations from individuals, institutions, associations, organisations, and businesses. The Åbo Akademi University Foundation offers many ways to support education, research, and culture in Finland, and as a donor, you have significant flexibility in determining how your contribution is managed.
Here are some options:
- Make a bequest through your will.
- Establish a scholarship.
- Create a named fund.
- Directly support Åbo Akademi University.
Your donation can be given as a general contribution, which will be used in alignment with our purpose as outlined in our statutes. Alternatively, you may choose to direct your donation toward a specific project or purpose within this mission.
